167 Newark Cops Laid-off Even After Violent Weekend

November 29, 2010

Following a violent holiday weekend in Newark where at least 5 people were shot and wounded in separate incidents, including one 15 year-old in the Ironbound, 167 police officers or 17% of the force will lose their jobs at midnight, tonight.

According to an e-mail sent to Mayor Cory Booker today from the head of the Newark Fraternal Order of Police, Derrick Hatcher, there won’t be any concessions by the police union to prevent the layoffs of 167 officers.

What are your thoughts right now?

This is disgusting. I have supported Cory Booker for many years. I am very sad to read this news. I feel he hired these police officers to cement his election. It is not fair to the residents of Newark. Especially since we are facing higher taxes.

I will not vote for Cory Booker ever again.

Have the cops pick up the garbage. Or nail wood boards to the broken windows of all the abandoned houses. Or maybe teach them how to read.
