3rd Police Precinct, Newark

Newark’s 3rd Police Precinct is the “Pride of the Ironbound.”

The East Ward is the largest geographical police district in Newark. It has a population of more than 60,000 and covers 12 square miles.

Captain: Dennis Reilly
649 Market Street
Newark NJ 07105

Precinct: 973.733.6190 or 973.733.6195
Community Affairs: 973.733.6188
Crime Stoppers: 973.733.5884
Detective Squad: 973.733.6290

Crime Statistics:

3rd Precinct Crime Statistics for the week ending 08/17/2008

The good news is that overall crime in the Ironbound is down 15% from last year. However, three types of crime are up… way up. Robberies, aggravated assaults, and burglaries are up between 20%-35%. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times (day and night) and make sure to report suspicious activity and any crime.

Let’s help keep Newark safe. If we don’t report crime than we will lose out on police presence.

UPDATE: We were mentioned by the Star-Ledger but we really owe it to Detective Jim Bircsak for keeping the Newark Police Department’s website updated.

I wish to applaud the latest efforts by Newark city govt to destroy any kind of communiocation with its citizens. I tried to fill out and mail a Civilian Complaint Form but you give no address where to mail it. Congratulations. Plus the Newark Govt website does not allow anyone to make any sort of comment to his fellow citizens about how rotten the police are, and incompetent the sanitation dept is, and how the bus drivers are and how terrible city services are. You have effectively cut off any possibility for transparency in my govt. Good job. Keeping the rotten status quo in place, and showing utter contempt for citizens.
