One of the most important factors in a person’s quality of life is their safety. While crime has dropped in the last few years, there is much to be done. Looking at the crime statistics for the 3rd precinct (the precinct that serves the Ironbound) below, some types of crimes are higher than the previous year while others have dropped. Shootings stayed the same. Murder, rape, and theft are up. Robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and auto-theft was down. A 12% decrease in crime overall.
Here are some resources and suggestions to do your part in making the Ironbound safe for all.

In November, Peter Pantoliano announced he would run against incumbent East Ward Councilman Augusto Amador for the East Ward Council seat.
The elections will take place in May 2010 and will be a battle between the “New City Hall” by Peter Pantoliano and “Little City Hall” of the councilman.
Peter Pantoliano opened his own “Little City Hall” in June 2008 at 62 Jefferson Street as the “Peter Pantoliano Civic Association,” which aims to bring community services to Ironbound residents giving it the name of “New City Hall.”
Augusto Amador maintains his “Little City Hall” at 113 Monroe Street, which supports his constituents.
