rom City Hall of the Great City of Newark comes this press release regarding the Portugal Day Festival this weekend. These policies and rules go well with The Daily Newarker’s Survival Guide.

The City also bans the following items from the festival area:

  • bicycles
  • large coolers
  • exotic animals

Schedule:

Friday, June 6th - ends at midnight
Saturday, June 7th - ends at midnight
Sunday, June 8th - ends at nine

Alcohol sales must cease one hour before the closing time.

Newark Police, Alcohol Beverage Control, Code Enforcement, and other agencies will be enforcing all laws and ordinances during the weekend, and offenders will be prosecuted.

POLICIES AND RULES BEING ENFORCED DURING THE PORTUGUESE FESTIVAL

  • Glass bottles and containers are prohibited. Street vendors selling alcohol are prohibited from dispensing alcoholic beverages in glass bottles or containers.
  • Large flags, banners, sticks, poles, or other obstructions shall not be allowed in the festival with the exception of those of organized performing groups or those persons participating in the parade or processions.
  • Bicycles are not allowed within the festival area.
  • The general public shall not be allowed to carry large coolers into the festival area.
  • Dogs shall not be walked within the festival area. Small dogs that can easily be carried will be permitted. Exotic animals and pets (e.g., snakes, lizards, etc.) are prohibited in the festival area due to the general public’s sensitivity and emotional reaction to such animals. Persons with such pets shall be directed to leave the festival.
  • The consumption of alcohol shall NOT be permitted in or near Penn Station; this excludes consumption within licensed establishments.
  • Festivities conclude at 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 5; at midnight on Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7; and 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. Alcohol sale must cease one hour before the closing time.
  • NO public drinking outside designated festival/street fair route.
  • NO alcohol stuffed backpacks; liquor stores & alcohol vendors shall NOT dispense liquor into any backpacks.

Written by Councilman Augie Amador, and featuring performances by Fatima Santos, Rancho Camponeses do Minho and Rancho Casa do Ribatejo, this show will take you on a tour of Portugal. A must see!!!

Summer Camp Open House

Summer Camp Open House at the Ironbound Boys and Girls Club

The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Ironbound will be hosting a Summer Camp Open House on June 6, at 7:00 pm, at 11 Providence Street, Newark, NJ.

If you wish to enroll your child in the Summer Camp, now is the time.

The program includes: 2-3 trips per week, breakfast and lunch, CPR certified counselors, and before and after care.
