I really whish they would change the name of this stupid feast or do away with it once and for all. There is NOTHING Portuguese about it and it is nothing more then an insult to the Portuguese comunity.

Simply put it is a sad excuse for a bunch of bored miscreants to get together drink until they cant see straight, abuse other people who are there just trying to have a good time and provoke being mased by the Police. No self respecting Portuguese person or vendor even dares to participate in the event ; with the exception of the Wednesday and Thursday night events which actually contain some Portuguese culture. The rest of the weekend is pure garbage, filled with disrespectful DBags that are there just trying to start problems.

It’s bad enough we have to see Puerto Rican flags taped to tacky toyota carollas on a daily basis but on this so called “Portuguese feast” the Puerto Rican flags outnumber any other flag which is utterly rediculous and shows just how insecure and tacky you are. Don’t get me wrong, this statement is in no way against Puerto Ricans or any other country, just simply against the idiots who have no sense of appropriateness or culture.

As a Portuguese citizen, and I’m sure 85% of other Portuguese people will agree with me, nothing would make us happier then to have this feast end once and for all. I’ll end my rant here.

Manny May 6, 2009 at 1:01 pm

Just to clear up the tone in my rant,

Portuguese people really don’t mind other people of other nationalities participating, in fact it’s encouraged and everyone is more then welcome to indugle in our culture. The point I was simply trying to make is that a lot of people come down and actually TRY to be disrespectful to the portuguese culture. I singled out the Puerto ricnas not b/c I have something against them but b/c it is the most common issue everyone can relate too. Believe me, there are DBags from every nationality making a fool of themselves and disrespecting the purpose of the feast and every other person just trying to enjoy themselves. In fact some of the Portuguese citizens are no better (mainly the younger crowd) by adding fuel to the flame and encouraging idiot like behavior.

Paul May 7, 2009 at 3:15 pm

Get a grip! I love it when down neck turns into MURTOSA land!!!

Jackie May 21, 2009 at 12:31 pm

I like it. I have to agree that it may be, for some people, a poor excuse to drink and fight. It’s sad. And it’s getting worse every year. Not only it’s getting worse “drunk/fight” wise, but the feast itself is attracting less people… most likely because it’s every year more dangerous.

On the other hand, I still like it. It’s a nice, lively commemoration, on a beautiful, sunny day (usually). I just do my best to have fun and don’t mind the poor-spirited people.

I’m not Portuguese, but I understand Manny’s point. And I agree that the real Portuguese (traditional style) commemoration for Portugal Day happens on Thursday and Friday.

Hope we all have a fun and safe feast this year! =)

Gina May 21, 2009 at 4:42 pm

I do agree that people get out of control with the drinking but it’s at any festival you go to now a days. It was be more enjoyable if people didn’t drink out of control. We just need to learn how to to control your liquior and have a good time..

Nuno May 26, 2009 at 6:20 pm

I totally agree with Manny as well. I remember back in the day when the Portuguese feast was actually mostly Portuguese people. Now it’s all Brazilians and Puerto Ricans and other people. I agree that everyone should be allowed to indulge in our culture, but don’t come to the feast to show off your Puerto Rican flag, especially when you probably can’t even speak Spanish or pinpoint Puerto Rico on a world map. The worst is that the Puerto Rican day parade in NYC is always on the same exact Sunday as the Portuguese Day parade. They all come from NYC to the Ironbound with their flags. If they were to even see one non-Puerto Rican flag at their parade they would probably beat that person up, yet it’s ok for them to come to our feast. I agree with Manny that we should just end this non-Portuguese Portugal Day celebration.

Christian May 27, 2009 at 7:37 am

Just wondering what happened to any recognition towards the Spaniards in the area. Why doesnt Spanish culture get any love when there is a good amount of people from Spain in the Ironbound?

Manny R May 30, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Enough of all the hate. Damn. This is why people think we all suck and why we bad and sh*t… Shut up. Whycan’t we just have fun and behave ourselves without acting like a jack ass?! And to those haters who are disrespecting my flags (im made up of many diff cultures but I’m BOTH Portuguese and Puerto Rican! I’m a Portu-Rican!) Go screw yourselves. I’m being nice and polite and this is how it should be. You shouldnt have to go into a frenzy just because people wish they were like you and so insist on hating on you because of jealousy and such. Let just all have fun and yes–the Spaniards should be rep’d in the future, to.. Go SPAIN! We kicked ass in soccer/futbol yet again!

MAINEVENT May 30, 2009 at 4:15 pm

I don’t know what portuguese feast you idiots go to but I see every race acting like fools. Including portuguese people. To single out Puerto Ricans is silly. Besides, most of them are at the PR parade which is usually the same weekend. This attitude some of you portuguese carry is the reason why you people aren’t on the map anymore. Until you learn to stop being so racist and above everything and everyone else you might earn some respect from other cultures.

Maybe your children won’t try so hard to emulate the Ricans Blacks and every other culture you hate so much. Yes, you were the enslavers and rapists of North and South America but you don’t need to carry that badge all your lives LOL. And christian, spaniards? Let’s not even go there. Face it guys, the time has come. Before portuguese and spaniards were Italians, Irish and Jews in Newark. Guess what guys? Move over because Brazilians and South Americans are obviously here to stay. Ciao.

patriciag18 May 31, 2009 at 12:15 am

Puerto ricans act the same way as african americans, in our countries we do not have a race separation we are all the same, here must of us still respect and follow our traditions. Lest face it they have own that fame.

That Brazilian Bitch May 31, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Portuguese people are just mad that brazilians & puertoricans are obviously the fun cool people….portuguese people talk alot of s**t because P.R. & Brazil take over because we want to have a good time. I do agree we act a lil outta hand at times, but if Newark knew how to organize these events better and not have their cops drinkin in the job, then maybe everyone could culturally get along……These events are always the same….boring, dangerous, and expensive….if u want something else, go back to your country for 2-3 weeks of real fun!!!!!! =)

B-Heezy21 June 1, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Thank you MAINEVENT for ending all the foolish talk. When you put thousands of people together and mix food and alcohol anything can happen. No festival is perfect things like fights are going to happen. I don’t hear people comlaining on St. Patties day when a millions of (non Irish) people go out and party Hoboken, Philadelphia and various other cities across the nation. Talk about an excuse to drink lol…and yes there are plenty of bar/street fights all over the place during this holiday which include mostly WHITE people. Why don’t we just shut down St. Patties day? Bottom line, ppl just need to stop complaining and go out and have fun with the people you go with. Bitching about it will not stop the problem. Things happen…and every race acts a fool one time or another.

frank June 2, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Real Ironbounders take the weekend off and go on vacation that weekend; The Feast from Hell is back for hopefully one more year.
There goes the new sidewalks, LOL!!

This feast has to be the most boring of all feasts
Please make this the last one, END THIS SHIT FOREVER.
Amador do you hear us!!!!
Ironbound Homeowner

thais bastos June 4, 2009 at 1:37 pm

to manny,

i brazilian and i always go to the feast. i really dont know why you have a problem with other people repping their culture. because yeh it may offand you when we do it but yet when brazilian day comes along in september you see portugese flags everywhere too. and dont go pointing out the ricans and the brazilians because its every culture. and if it was really portugese day, they wouldnt sell flags of other countries and brazilians wouldnt have their little corner. you the ones that put it on your selves.

Banana Hammock June 4, 2009 at 1:44 pm

Lighten up and go have some fun!

c June 4, 2009 at 9:30 pm

all the guys on this page are missing the big picture. forget all the fights, who cares? mind your business and you will be fine. the festival has always been to me an event full of beautifull women from all the hispanic and europian countries. that and some beers, it gets no better.

me June 5, 2009 at 9:45 am

The complaints are ridiculous. There are fights at any event like this and like the person said above, no one complains when it’s the St. Patties day parade, filled with underaged drinking and fights but as soon as a group with a little color has the same type of event then there are cries to shut it down and what not.
IT’S RIDICULOUS!
My friends and I are Indians, Nigerians, White, Black Americans and we love coming to this every year. We stick together, when we see someone getting rowdy, we walk away. We enjoy the food the sites and the conversation.
There is no need to shut this down. If you don’t like it, go on vacation but I think this is one of the fun things to look forward to each summer.
In fact, I can’t wait!

CECI June 5, 2009 at 1:29 pm

@ That Brazilian Bitch

If by walking around half naked, drunk and slutty you’re being fun and cool, no thanks, I’ll rather be boring and decent. I don’t know if you were even born yet or if you remember that a few years back the brasilians were kicked out of the parade itself because they tought it was the Carnaval and they were parading themselves half naked. Now call me stupid all you want but this is a family event, if I don’t let my children watch certain tv shows with graffic content why would I want them to witness something like that? Learn how to behave and respect others culture and we won’t have a problem with you. You don’t see us portuguese disrespecting your culture so we expect the same from others.

Lucy June 8, 2009 at 11:51 am

More to the point, the alcoholism should be addressed in this neighborhood, never mind the droves of illegal immigration pouring into the neighborhood. Take an early morning walk down Ferry Street and you will surely see the drunks squeezed out of their 1 bedrooms they share with 15 other people, parked on their stoop drinking and harrassing women. There has been a significant rise in alchol related accidents and crime (especially sex crimes). THIS is what has changed the feast. THIS is why real residents cannot stomach attending the feast anymore. It may have been the Italians, Irish and Jews before the Spaniards and Portuguese, but now instead of Mexicans and South Americans who can offer a beautiful culture, we’re stuck with the lower rung of society.. the drunks.

P.S. What’s with all the out of state plates?

Oh My! June 8, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Why are people complaining so much!?

I keep seeing this phrase over and over again, “back in the day…” Well, yes exactly. Back in your day it may have been different (you old farts! lol jk) but now it is different whether that be good or bad. Either way I still only know a few things:

1. It’s still one big party.
2. The food is always amazing
3. And the Sangria is the best.

So go get yourself a piece of chicken, a tub of sangria and have a good time. If you don’t like the Puerto Ricans, Brazilians, Mexicans and Spaniards then don’t go. Despite what you may think your attendance will not make or break the feast. Also, if you don’t want your children “exposed” to “half naked slutty people” then don’t bring them at night. If you know its going to happen and you still bring them, then you’re the only one to blame. I have never seen parents with their children there past 6pm. Be smart. Be safe. And have fun.

and to the “real ironbound-ers” the feast from hell? if that is really your outlook then I guess its for the best you don’t go. Have fun on your vacation.

Christian June 9, 2009 at 7:48 am

Can we get rid of the shirtless Guidos? Its pretty disgusting bumping into their sweaty ass bodies. Ladies dont say “well then the girls would have to be dressed properly if thats going to happen” Dont care, fair trade off if you ask me. Its not the beach Guidos, I know you put in countless amount of hours of your lives into the gym to get your body”diesel” but you dont have to show it off. Cant you guys just be humble and just concentrate on the amount of gel you put in your hair becaus ethat shits going to be dripping down your face constantly with the heat…lol…….and away with the Eurohawk…that phase is over and you’ll never look European in the sense of clothing style or hair……….Guidos be gone….its takes more than hairstyle and clothes to be European, its a lifestyle and personality………..Viva Espana y la madre que la parrio!! …ps who gives a shit who goes to the damn feast, jsut have fun and drink like an adult….something people in Europe do well………..saludos a Muros, quien me diera estar en el Xeixo

Leelee June 9, 2009 at 9:38 am

Ok, no need to fight over this nonsense. I think the main idea that some people are trying to get by is that years ago the “portugal day” festival was a PORTUGUESE celebration. lots of culture, music, and pride. Over the years the area itself has changed and different people moved in which is a great thing too. Its a beautiful mix of people and cultures, however, it is fair to say that the fesitval itself is no longer about portuguese culture and the influx of other people have made it a point to praise their cultures on this day of recognition for the portuguese people who have been around that area for MANY MANY years. It is just sad but theres nothing we can do but enjoy the day. Have fun. and stop the drama. the violence and all that is jsut pointless and stupid. Try to enjoy the day and lemme know how it goes bc i will NOT be attending this year. Almost got stuck in the middle of a major fight last year that happened right next to me and personally would like to keep my nose in tact :)

CECI June 9, 2009 at 11:22 am

Don’t get me wrong I’m not some old prude that doesn’t like to have fun and see other people have fun, it’s just makes me mad that people are talking crap about portuguese people when it’s our feast. Please people can’t we all just get along, what does it matter if you’re portuguese, brazilian, puertorican, white, black , we all should get along and have fun. And I should be able to take my kids to the feast without having them exposed to kind of environment, but I feel like in recent years it’s impossible, I say it again people should learn how to behave in a rational manner, and it’s not only at night that the “slutty ” behavior occurs is at all times of the day. Unfortunately I cannot escape it because i live a block away from Ferry St. but i hope to be moving out of Newark soon and when I do, you won’t catch me there.

Alana June 9, 2009 at 2:52 pm

I live in Newark on Lafayette Street and when they have this Portual Day on Ferry Street for the weekend, I must say they ruin my property, my car & the neighborhood is just a disgrace. I can’t believe the Mayor would allow this to go on. Let them go somewhere else that is more confined & not around the properties of the people that live in Newark.
Who cleans up after them? I can’t even go home for the weekend. It is just a disgrase.

Paul June 10, 2009 at 10:21 am

for the record, most portuguese people do not express the same hateful opinions as some on this messageboard. I for one, with many friends of different nationalities, look forward to this feast every year. It’s a time to hang, share our portuguese culture with everyone and have a great time. for those who can’t get past their ignorance, please don’t come. you won’t be missed. they’ll be plenty of us fun loving portuguese peeps representing our culture with pride! oh btw, Ceci, I guess your kids don’t watch tv. Nuno, back in the day. how about living in the present, Manny, you need to get some.

Kelly June 10, 2009 at 11:36 am

Ok.. I am going to agree with Oh My! with the following:
1. It’s still one big party.
2. The food is always amazing
3. And the Sangria is the best.

That being said.. move on everyone! It’s a weekend of your life. I come from the Shore area and absolutely LOVE the festival. Not because it’s a portuguese fest… just because it’s a fun festival. I come during the early evening with my friends that own a home nearby. Most towns in NJ have SOME kind of event that makes them cringe.. but it’s a weekend or week and we move on. Memorial day near the beach, prom season in wildwood, Warped Tour in Old Bridge, St Pat’s in Hoboken & Belmar, 3rd of July Fireworks in Red Bank, need I go on? The festival does NOT make any nationality look badly. If someone is going to judge an entire nationality by a festival filled with every nationality.. they are truly ignorant. I agree that there should be better guidleines to keep the community safe and their homes/property free from damage (why are people so stupid that they need to vandalize.. drunk or not.. have some self respect) but beyond that.. leave town for the weekend.. make it your very own vacation weekend.. stay with a friend.. stay in.. whatever it take to keep your sanity. For those who live in town… while I am at the fest I PROMISE to be good! :) Have fun everyone but be respectful!!

Maria June 10, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Viva Portugal!!! Everyone is welcome to celebrate our day. Whatever you are, come enjoy our culture/food/sangria!!! Please be respectful and be kind to your fellow party goers. Chop girls holla!

Unbelievable! June 10, 2009 at 3:20 pm

argg this discussion gets me so aggravated every year its the same shit.. KIDS YES YOU KIDS seem to think its just an excuse to walk around naked and get drunk.. dont bring our kids at night? Lets see im portuguese its my culture and my time to celebrate and would like the kids to enjoy it and have a good time its also their culture its not your weekend to be a slut “that brazilian bitch” … Isnt that some shit how people can really post shit thinking this is a discussion on discrimination against spanish people or brazilians not at all come party we could care less just leave the flags and the ignorance at home its not appreciated

mike June 10, 2009 at 3:56 pm

I only have one question….
Where is Portugal..??????

Eric June 10, 2009 at 10:38 pm

A lot of retards in here, let’s face it the feast WAS fun but now you have to literally watch your back because if you don’t you’ll either end up being robbed or involved in a fight for no reason. I can’t help but laugh at the people talking about how good the food is, if you think that crap is good you would probably jizz your pants if you tasted it at a real Portuguese / Spanish restaurant when the feast isn’t going on and the food isn’t half assed. I’m Dominican and I have to agree that the Ricans and Brazilians have got to be the tackiest, most disrespectful bunch of tools during this feast. What world do some of you live in thinking racism is a thing of the past?? Like it or not racism is alive and well and prominant as always, only difference is now we’re more politically correct about it. I see it most coming from Blacks, but that’s a story for a different day.

Like Manny said Portugal day is great on Thursday and Friday but the rest is filled with tools. Fuck all the homos that feel the need to display ur corny flags at other peoples cultural events.

Before some dipshit pulls the race card on me, just know that I hate every one equally.

John June 10, 2009 at 11:05 pm

Hah, loving all the haters responses with non sense to Manny’s Rant. Sorry guys but Manny hit the nail on the head, this feast can be fun and I’m not Portuguese but I attend every year mainly because I can’t avoid it being a home owner in the Ironbound and all. I try to make the best of it but I’ll be damned if I don’t feel like breaking someone’s jaw every 10 minutes or worse. I’ve had some runt try and grab my wife’s ass last year while trying to walk through a crowd, what’s ironic is that he was carrying a rican flag; it’s a shame that he ended up loosing his flag and possibly a few teeth after I was done with him; but I see what some of these guys are saying here.

The feast is just too overwhelming for the city of newark to control, and I’m amazed at how they let it keep going this long knowing this. If they were to cut the feast in 1/2 and make it much smaller, along with stopping the party at 10 – 11 with a full on police raid. Make it illegal to serve liquor out on Ferry street and tighten up on licensing for concession stands along the street; all the trouble makers would be turned off to the feast and would be a hell of a lot more controllable.

Ohh well what can you do, unfortunately it will keep going on the way it does or worse, come to an end with out any kind of attempt at making this day more enjoyable and safer for the citizens.

Eric June 10, 2009 at 11:47 pm

I rather avoid the feast, you can smell the piss from a mile away that weekend from all the drunk idiots that can’t make it to the bathroom and instead piss on my front steps. . Bunch of good for nothing tools ruin that feast for everyone. I would love too see the city of Newark kill the street section of this feast. They should also ban the sale and consumption of alcahol anywhere where there isn’t a roof over your head during this feast. But can you expect from the city of Newark.

American Beauty June 11, 2009 at 8:14 am

I hope you all can read so you get my message…u r all bitching over italians, south americans, Puerto ricasns, Mexicans and out of staters! In Newark this by far is the least of your worries. I grew up in E’town & the main problem isnt the bitch session that gave me a migraine reading…nor is it 15 drunks sharing a 1 B/R apt.
It’s the Fu**ing African American poor oppressed free ride through everything drug dealing gang bangers packin guns, dope and crack….can’t people stop comparing who should & shouldn’t go…drinking is legal.Gang activity, drug dealing and using narcotis IS ILLEGAL. People get shot for wearing the wrong colored shirt in that shithole F**king town & all you Euro-Competitive assholes worry about is scant clothing & hair gel. Try cleaning Newark up & stop starting shit before this fest even happens! This is AMERICA…FREEDOM OF CHOICE….you can go to portugal & live true traditions…or attend a big party with great food and sangria!! If u go with a shit attitude..that is exactly what u wll get back to you. Have some fun or stay home….JB from RP

MAIN EVENT June 11, 2009 at 11:49 am

I don’t know about the rest of the guys in here but I have no problem seeing titties.

Cmon morons lets be real! The feast is pretty mild to take your kids to during the day while the sun is out. That’s the perfect time for the rest of you racist pigs, snobs and uptight old timers to share the bial that protrudes from your dirty ass mouths.

You have to be brain dead to take your kid at night…I mean how can a child even make it through the waves and waves of people? Titties are the last of your worries silly folk.

In the end, I think everyone can make time to have fun at the feast. This includes the elitist folk and the low life party animals.

This is newark. I bet 100 dollars you ironbounders instinctively make a u-turn once you reach NJ Railroad Ave. I doubt you acknowledge or care about the rest of the world from the confines of your little boxed in dreamland. But if this party were just attended by the ironbound population, what a lifeless empty feast it would be.

Also, last time I checked, Portuguese and Spaniards suffer greatly from alcoholism. Not to mention domestic violence. I don’t see a difference between them and the South Americans.

nobody is any better than anyone.

CECI June 11, 2009 at 1:30 pm

I’m guessing the people in here saying that we should just take our kids to the feast during daytime have no kids of their own, because once you do your perspective on life will change. I see hundreds of people with their children there and I have since I came to this country 19 years ago, but one thing is certain this feast is not about the portuguese culture anymore is just about getting drunk and rowdy. Also I have no interest on seeing somebody else’s tities, I have my own, and if you’re going to the feast just to either see tities or showing them you have a very pathetic life. Another thing is I am not racist, my children are half portuguese and half ecuadorian, so it would be very stupid of me to be racist. All I’m asking is respect other people, you’re not the only one that matters.

Paul June 11, 2009 at 4:06 pm

CECI, 100% chop here. and yes I have 2 kids, and do attend the feast yearly during the day when most families are present. and have them in the parade doing our dance. I would never bring my kids later on, cause that’s when its starts to get rowdy/crowded. It’s called logic! ever use some? I have no problems for a topless feast, but you won’t see that during the day. its safe, not crazy. so peeps bring your families/friends down and enjoy the feast. don’t let a few rotten miserable fun-hatting apples ruin it for everyone one else. now lets go eat some sardines!!!

La La La La La June 11, 2009 at 4:20 pm

Wow, I am amazed at how everyone seem to have forgotten where they are. It’s the UNITED STATED OF AMERICA. If you want only Portugal to be represented at the festival have it in Portgugal. I thought the point of this Festival was give non portuguese people a chance to experience a lil bit of your food & culture as you celebrate that culture. Get a grip, just don’t go if you don’t want to deal with it.

Proud Mommy June 11, 2009 at 5:46 pm

Wow , so many people are bitching about the Festival.
You don’t like ,well please stay home under your bed thinking about you BOrinG life.(your problem not mine)
If you go,like im lets have fun .
If i see a tittie ,Oh ,well i see a titie ..NO big deal.
This is not the middle east….. if you like to wear burkas ,then you should dmove there.
Stop the bitchin’ and winning ……Les go have fun….

HABIB June 11, 2009 at 7:55 pm

Blah Blah Blah, shut the fuck up already, especially you MAIN EVENT, you sound like a real fucking douche bag. I don’t see anyone in this stupid blog posting about how Portugal or Spain is better then anybody so why the fuck are you running at the mouth. As for you fuckers complaining about Puerto Ricans a big FUCK YOU to yall. I visit the feast after attending mine in NY and it sucks. It’s just something to do, bitches running around half naked and idiots starting fights for no reason, it is a decent form of entertainment to watch these A-Holes. There definitely is nothing Portuguese about this god damn feast so I have to agree that they should just change the name already, my friends are Portuguese and live in the Ironbound and every god damn year they leave the area to escape the scum.

Really, nobody gives a shit about domestic abuse in some European communities, you act like that’s any different from the hill billy white trash americans or gang banging Africans. All you dipshits should go wipe the sand out of your vagina and just deal with the god damned situation, it’s not the end of the world, life goes on and unfortunately people will always be assholes, get over it.

Tom June 11, 2009 at 7:57 pm

I can has cheezburgers??? =o)

chupa chupa porque e de uva June 11, 2009 at 8:02 pm

an educated chop's opinion June 12, 2009 at 9:40 am

Hey,
So this isn’t a bant with regard to some racial crap but rather just about the “Portugal Day” fest itself and being portuguese.
Now, I haven’t gone to this thing in 4 years, but I’m positive its still the same drunked loud mouth street barbeque its almost always been…
And that’s fine… What really is a party? Isn’t it exactly that?
To everyone whose blogged on this page, have you ever ben to Portugal in the summer? For many of you the answer is probably no. Portugal in the summer is a fucking party scene!!!
Yes, it is, if you disagree then you’re probably stuck somewhere on your grandparents farm in some lowely aldeia up in geres (a real chop knows exactly what that means)…
There are local “festas da fregesia” every weekend. Granted, they usually start out sometime in the early afternoon with some saint being processed down the local streets from the local church… But thereafter, its a PARTY!!!! And its gets wilder into the night….
No, I have no problem with hot chick getting drunk and people yelling and having fun, that’s a party. Just as we see it is in Portugal. But lets remember, there is also some deceny involved. We’re not a party culture like Brazilians… We’re Europeans… So that does condone a sense of aesthetic class to it, doesn’t it? (BTW much love for my Brazilian brothers, you guys do have shit loads of fun, and NO I’m not saying in the above that you’re classless, just different in culture).
So, yes the old-school Portuguese families have a right to also relate to their mother country inthe sense of the classiness we portray in public, regardless if its a party.
Why can’t there be a medium?
If you want a traditional chill Portuguese style street fair like you’re used to seeing in Porto or Braga or Faro or wherever then come out during the day with your kids and parents and in-laws. Realize though that the drunks are here to stay and so is the loud music (just as it is na nossa “santa terrinha”).
If you want to feel like you’re 25ish again, like “back in the day,” or if you in fact are 25ish come out and have a shit load of fun like you would at any other real street party, at night. Titts and ass, (brazilian, portuguese, and p.r. tits and ass — not bad by most straight guys’ standards), beer (sagres, super-boc, heineken, corona — again, some high quality stuff), wine (portuguese — self explanitory [its awesome]), live bands (portuguese — again self explanitory [sucks LOL]), and fun…
There’s alot of bad connoation on both sides of the arguement about this fest, but really ask yourself, if it were Portugal would it be much different? I gotta say, the little difference I could see would be that there would be simply no flags. Not Portuguese (b/c you would obviously know you were there you dumb fuck), not Brazilian, not P.R.
So you want to make it a “real” Portuguese fest…..
Go!!!! Go there, eat chorico grilled in an open fire, drink some porto, have a sagres, a sardinha or two, enjoy the ambient as much as you can and be appreciative that there are actually a shit load of people from real party cultures that crash our party b/c they think its actually worth something…
Try to also chill in the portuguese communities of Ironbound… It is portugal day afterall. Stay out of the latino section, stay out of the brazilian section, and try to enjoy the party where its really meant to be, in the portuguese section. If I’m going I want to go to hangout with my fellow chops in the chop section of Ironbound on the chop day fest. I don’t go to St. Genaro’s feast in lilttle italy just to end up walking a couple blocks down the street to the local pizzaria in china town and say i partied at st. genaro’s feast.

And in closing just one more thing…. SPEAK PORTUGUESE THERE!!!!! Don’t speak english or spanish or whatever….. Let’s keep that one real thing about the “Portugal Day” fest…

oi!

Portugal Day Parade is the shit , admit it why do more than 1 million people come down to the portuguese feast? Its all because portuguese people now how to get down hard, ofcourse all the Ricans and Brazilians come to our feast and represent their culture but they have nothing againts the Pork Chops because we own Ironbounrd son.

I was excited about attending the Portuege day functions but after reading this crap I will stay away. I think you all can take the blame for Newark looking like hell. You all should be excited people want to come to Newark. The city is a JOKE to most people of NY and NJ.. I wish all of you tacky racist the best.. Peace and Blessings

I suggest the following people: manny, nuno, frank, ceci, lucy, alana, eric, john, habib, chupa get together and have their own little boring (yawn) feast. this way they can talk and re-live all those past fun moments in their boring-ass lives. Can you hear the crickets……..just my thoughts. For everyone else, let’s have fun. be respectful. and party responsibly. eat fraturas

Don’t sweat yourself Main Event, That’s just how I fucking talk on normal basis, my mouth is a worse then a god damn truckers mouth and in no way was I even upset. I really could care less, this aint my shit hole feast or my people, just pointing out the obvious to you clowns. As for what I said about you; I don’t know you just strike me as a fudge packing homo who’s full of himself, nothing more, nothing less; Chump.

What I would love to know is why you Chop clowns don’t pop the fuckers disrespecting you waving their homo flags around?? Just try and wave another flag at my feast and you’ll be lucky to be breathing after a few minutes. Pansies.

Has anyone noticed that there are a total of 3-4 Portuguese people that have posted in this post and only about 2 of them actually complained in a non racist way?? It seems that the outsiders are the ones with the biggest complaints here lol ironic when they are the ones calling the Portuguese racists. I mean just read what these people are writing, we have a PR who is a homophobe and seems like maniac, a dominican that seems like he would fit well in the KKK or other racist extremist group even though i’m sure he’s dark skinned; and a bunch of white people with no association or clue about the Portuguese culture who are going out of their way to call Europeans out. People these days are funny.

It’s really simple actually, here’s the idea. Go to the feast, be respectful and get respect back. OMG what a thought!!! Last year I had dinner and drank myself silly with a group of portuguese and spaniards that I met that night. They were nothing but welcoming and really had a blast. The key thing is that I didn’t attend wearing my Germany shirt or wave my countries flag around like this is my celebration too.

Doesn’t take a genius to figure things out but then again the class of people you find in Newark isn’t exactly the brightest, no wonder the Portuguese, Spaniards and Brazilians are all moving away LOL.
