The One About The Karate Kid Part One

March 6, 2010

Two movie posts in a row! Watch out! Did you ever hear the one about The Karate Kid? Well it’s true! The Karate Kid was filmed in the… yes, you guessed it – The Ironbound. This 80s favorite starring Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita and the unforgettable Elisabeth Shue was directed by John G. Avildsen of Rocky fame. We’ll be honest, only the first 1:15 minutes or so are footage of the Ironbound (that we know of). Daniel, the Karate Kid, and his mother move to Reseda, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California 1:30 minutes into the movie. Nevertheless, this is a must see for Ironbound-ers around the world:

Do you recognize any of these locations? Please leave a comment.

Bonus: In case you haven’t been around the last few years, Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds was also filmed in the Ironbound – right on Ferry Street.
