Although this thing did not take place in the Ironbound this year, I had to cover it.I have attended all 3 Xtreme Rides Auto & Bike shows that have taken place in the last three consecutive years. The event was held at Iberia Restaurant’s parking lot (in the Ironbound) the year before and at the Portuguese Instructive Social Club in Elizabeth, New Jersey the first year. This year, the event was held at Costa del Sol in Union, New Jersey.
The concept is simple, hot cars, hot bikes, chicks in bikinis and of course, Portuguese barbecue! (You just can’t have a car show without Portuguese food!) The event was a lot like last years or the year before that. However, it certainly was “Bigger, Bolder, Better Then Ever Before…” as the flyer suggests.
the venue…
I have been to Costa del Sol quite a few times so I was familiar with the venue. It’s basically your average Portuguese restaurant except that they have lots of space. You can have all types of parties there. Indoors, outdoors, baptism, picnics; you name it, you can host it there. This venue is special because it can be easily accessed from all major highways (that’s a big plus because parking space is nonexistent in the Ironbound), has an outdoor stage, outdoor food and bar area, and there’s more to is than just black tar; they have a huge green field. This certainly added to the successfulness of the event.
the cars…
Imports, domestics, exotics, antiques, motorcycles, trikes, and motor-lunchbox/coolers. The cars were hot. It’s a car show, you couldn’t accept anything less. There were many cars I haven’t seen before, some cars I have seen before, and some nice rides from Rolls Royce, Honda, Toyota/Scion, and etc. The bike stunt show was awesome; those guys really handle their bikes well. However, it did get repetitive and boring after awhile. Plus, everyone was tired of inhaling rubber-tire fumes.
the models…
The models were, for the most part, the same ones. The models are provided by Rix Entertainment Magazine as usual. The Xtreme Bikini Contest was pretty hot too but the host kept saying, “All you have to do…” Repeatedly. It’s all part of the show, a big big tease. The contest drew a really large crowd (everyone was there) with their bikini-clad chicks, giveaways (one guy won a mini-bike!), musical performances, and really talented disk jockeys.
the Dyno runs…
For those that don’t know: A dyno run is a way to measure the force and power of a car using a dynamometer. Basically a car is hooked-up to a flat-bed towing truck look-a-like. Next, the driver pushes the car to it’s limits and a nearby computer collects the data. A Dyno run is the type of thing you should only watch once. Unless you are the car’s owner, Dyno runs are no fun!
Overall, the event was a big success. However, I hear that there were not as many attendees as last year, probably because people are on vacation this time of year. I had a great time. I saw a great deal of awsome cars, some hot chicks, and cool bikes. I’m looking forward to the fourth Xtreme Rides Auto & Bike Show.
